HAVE A RESTFUL, SAFE, AND HAPPY VACATION

VACATION EXTRA CREDIT!!!

Send Ms. DR a postcard from wherever you spend your vacation (even if youÕre in Newton!) Say hello, and tell her one thing you experienced that has something to do with physics.

Homework for week of February 28

Monday 2/28

In class today we will go over the mid-year and the quiz you took before vacation. Be prepared to work hard in class! This will be the last in-class teaching of this material (all of the second term motion and Newton's Laws concepts, heat and temperature, heat transfer, and phase change).

Tuesday 3/1

Try to solve some of the probelms in the Phase Change Math packets: In Part 1 you should be able to do #1,4,7,10,13 and 14. If you choose to do Part 2, you should be able to do all of it. Spend half an hour concentrating on this assignment, and then stop. We will work on it more in class.

FYI: Q = amount of heat (in calories), m = mass (in grams) and L = latent heat (in cal/g¡C)

The "latent heats of fusion" (energy needed for phase change from solid to liquid) varies for a variety of metals. Find the ones you need in this table. You will also need this table to calculate latent heats of vaporazation.

Wednesday 3/2

Corrections due for Heat Quest.

Friday 3/4

The phase change packets Part I and Part 2 are due in class today. We'll go over a few problems in class.
